Here is how I lost 10 pounds in 15 days.
Gardens produce lots of veggies
Our family has grown a garden for about 7 years now. My kids don’t particularly love weeding it, but once I can drag them outside, we have great conversations. and we learn a lot from each other. I think life is so much better when the family does chores together. I took this picture of our garden about 10 minutes ago.
I am sure you are asking what a garden has to do with how I lost 10 pound in 15 days from juicing….well here it goes.
We produce so many vegetables from our garden that we end up giving most of it away and some of it even goes bad before we can freeze, eat or share. Here are some of the vegetables that we picked just yesterday.
Where the Juicing Idea Came From
A few years ago, I was looking for ways to lose 10 pounds fast. I believe in quick wins to get me going. I watched a documentary from Joe Cross called Fat, Sick, and Nearly dead. the documentary followed his journey of how juicing saved his life. I was intrigued. I decided that I could lose some weight by going on a juice cleanse. This became the best way for me to use the dozens of cucumbers and lettuce we harvested every year from our garden. I knew that a juice cleanse would be a great and healthy way to use up the vegetables and lose some unwanted pounds.
So I did some research and found a juice reboot book by Joe Cross, the same guy from the Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead documentary.
The Reboot with Joe Juice Diet: Lose Weight, Get Healthy and Feel Amazing
And I also bought this book by Joe Cross with 101 juice recipes.
It is difficult for me to follow a healthy diet because I simply don’t know what to make. I need to know exactly what to put in my mouth and when to put it in my mouth.
The best thing about the book is that it tells you exactly what to eat and when to eat it. I loved it! The reboot isn’t just juice. I didn’t eat or rather drink juice for 15 days straight. There was also soups, salads, and smoothies mixed in. One of my favorite soup recipes is below.
The book also gives you juice cleanse options as well. There is a 3 day, 5 day, 10 day and 15 day reboot. I decided to go all in and do the 15 day juice cleanse (reboot).
Shopping for a Juicer
I needed to find a juicer. Juicers are different from blenders, because the juicer separates the pulp from the juice. So it is important to get a good one. I use this one.
The Result
I was determined and stuck to the 15 day reboot in Joe’s book. The 15 day reboot was not just juice. There were soups (A recipe is at the bottom of this page), salads, smoothies, and even dessert.
I went through a lot of fruits and vegetables during those 15 days. I went through more fruits and vegetables during those 15 days than I probably do over 6 months. And after determination and perseverance, I lost 10 pounds in 15 days from juicing.
Pros
I lost 10 pounds in 15 days from juicing! I felt absolutely amazing. I didn’t get headaches during those 15 days which I usually do when I am trying to eat more healthy. My husband and I went on a vacation immediately after my juice cleanse and we walked and hiked and hiked and walked in the heat and sun and amazingly never felt worn out. I felt light and could keep going. I don’t think my experience hiking and walking would have been so great if I had not been on the cleanse (reboot).
Cons
I am grateful that I had a garden to take care of some of the vegetables, but with so many fruits and vegetables needed for the reboot, I needed to go to the store every couple of days so that I could have the freshest fruits and vegetables possible. It also takes a while to cut up all of the vegetables to put in the juicer.
I didn’t enjoy the juices that had celery in them. The first time I tried juiced celery, I gagged. It was absolutely the worst thing I have ever tasted in my entire life. So I stay away from juiced celery or I substitute it with something I like more.
What I do today
I am so grateful that I lost 10 pounds in 15 days from juicing. As I said earlier. I love quick wins. It helps me to move closer to my goals of eating right, exercising more and living a healthy and happy life. Today I juice a lot during harvest time. Now I only do the 3 day juice cleanse every 6 months. I don’t do the 15 day reboot because 15 days is a huge commitment. I also make enough juice for the entire family. I am glad we have the 101 recipe book that you can get by clicking on the link above. There are so many recipes that taste great and that allows us to use the vegetables from our garden. We love experimenting.
I also love smoothies click here for great smoothie recipes
One of my favorite recipes from Joe’s Reboot Book is below:
Squash and Apple Soup
Makes 4 Servings
Ingredients
1 acorn or butternut squash
1 small onion, diced
2 carrots, diced

Directions
1. Preheat over to 450 degrees
2 Cut the squash in half and remove the seeds. Place both halves flesh-side down in a baking dish with 1-2 cups water. Place in the oven and bake for 40 to 50 minutes until the flesh is bright orange and a fork punctures it easily. Set aside until cool enough to handle.
3. In the meantime, put the oil in a pan and saute the onion and carrots for 5 minutes, until the onion is translucent.
4. Add the stock and apple, then simmer for 10 minutes, or until the apple is soft.
5. Peel the cooled squash and add to the stock. Heat until warmed through.
